myCourses Status Report

Grades from Quizzes/Exams showing as "0" in Gradebook - posted May 6, 2008

A few instructors are reporting that in some cases Quiz grades which show correctly in the Assessment tool, are incorrectly transferring to the Grade Book as zero. Before entering final grades, faculty should verify any zeros in a Quiz or Exam column of the Grade Book by checking them against the Quiz or Exam grade as it shows in the Assessment Manager.

If a discrepancy is found, Instructors should edit the grade manually in the Grade Book and report the problem by e-mail to mycourses@sfasu.edu.

Planned downtime for May - posted April 23, 2008

myCourses is usually taken off-line during the 4th Friday night of each month for routine maintenance and backups. However, for May, 2008, the downtime will be moved and expanded so as to better correspond to the May-mester schedule and allow time to make some minor upgrades to the system.

myCourses will NOT go down on the 4th Friday which is during May-mester. Instead, starting the day after May-mester is over, myCourses is expected to be down from 10:00 p.m. Thursday night, May 29th until 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening, May 31st. Faculty are encouraged to make preparations in myCourses for Summer I before the scheduled downtime.

For those interested in the technical stuff: During the downtime three upgrades will be made to the system. The upgrades will not have any major effect on the user interface or user procedures. One upgrade will be the addition of a third server to the application server cluster. The second will be an upgrade to software drivers in the cluster load balancer. The third scheduled upgrade will be the addition of Service Pack 3 to our current Blackboard CE 6.2. Together, these upgrades are expected to resolve many of the known issues with our current version and improve stability and performance.
