Logging In to myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT):

Problem:
(when using Internet Explorer 7.0) When logging on to myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT) at http://mycourses.sfasu.edu a message appears, “ You have entered an incorrect user name or password.”

Solution:

Using Internet Explorer 7.0 - Delete browser history…

  • From the menu bar click Tools, and then Delete Browsing History, click Delete All, and then click Yes to finish this step
  • Again, from Tools, click the last link. Internet Options
  • Click the 4 th tab, Content
  • Under the topic Certificates, click Clear SSL state
  • Click OK, and OK again
  • Close the browser, and reopen it.  TYPE or PASTE this in the URL:  http://mycourses.sfasu.edu DO NOT USE AN OLD BOOKMARK/FAVORITE
  • Before attempting to login, in the upper right corner of the myCourses purple bar click on Check Browser.  The window that pops up will have your browser check results.  If there are ANY red Xs, the user must take action to resolve them before attempting to login to myCourses.  When the browser check result appears with all green checks, users may be assured their browser is compatible with myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT).
  • Click on Log In and type in the mySFA User Name and PIN in the User name and Password fields.
  • If unsuccessful logging on using Internet Explorer 7.0, we recommend using the browser Mozilla Firefox 3. Before attempting to log on, user should click Check Browser to make sure all green checks appear.
  • User should check for other programs such as Norton 360, Trend Micro, McAfee, and so forth which have firewall, spam blocker and pop-up blocker protection in the programs; as myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT) must be added as an allowed site.
  • Toolbars such as Yahoo, Google, MSN and so forth should be removed. They contain a pop-up blocker which prevents users from accessing myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT).

Application Signature Box

Problem:
User accesses the myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT) site to log on and an Application Signature Box appears.

Solution: User must select the box to “Trust” and then click “Run”.

Courses do not appear in myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT) Course List

Problem:
The student CAN log on to mySFA and can see their current semester courses in the My Courses tab, but when logging on to myCourses, (Blackboard/WebCT) does not see current courses in the Course List.

Solution:

1. The instructor may manually enroll user via the myCourses Grade Book, or,
2. User may contact the Web Course Support staff at 936-468-1919 or email mycourses@sfasu.edu; staff will add a course(s) manually to myCourses (Blackboard/WebCT).

Chat tool log randomly drops users

Problem:
The Chat tool is randomly dropping users from the log. Once the chat is finished, do not close the chat window until you apply one of the workarounds.

Workarounds:

  • Once the chat is finished, do not close the chat window until you apply one of the workarounds. capture the chat via select all, copy, and paste the text into your word processor (ctrl a, ctrl c, ctrl v).
  • if your browser does not permit copying text, capture the chat via Print Screen, pasting the images serially into your word processor (you will have to scroll down one chat window at a time to capture it this way.)

Once you have captured the log, it can be pasted directly into a Discussion Board message or attached as a file in the Discussion Board.

Quiz Tool

Problem: Randomly, when a user submits a quiz, the quiz does not submit; from the instructor area, it remains “In Progress”. There is no “Force Submission” link available to the instructor.

Workaround:
The instructor must reset the quiz and the student must retake it.

Tip: Faculty may opt to set the quiz to be emailed to their SFA mail: in the quiz settings, in Submission Properties, type in your email to have a copy of the quiz sent when the student clicks the submit link. The score can then be manually added to the grade book.

Adding Attachments

Problem: When using Internet Explorer 7.0 and attempting to add an attachment through the Assignment tool, after clicking the add attachment link, a user sometimes gets a white screen with the word “Loading” in the upper left corner of the screen, and in the original window in the button left corner or the screen an error icon appears. This occurs when there are HTML instructions in the assignment that are not properly interpreted by the Web, consequently the operation of adding an attachment is aborted.

Workaround:
Use Mozilla Firefox 3 as your browser. Mozilla Firefox adheres to Web page standards and is more flexible as a browser than Internet Explorer.

Error uploading file – Connection reset by peer:  socket write error”

Problem:
Some users are unable to upload (attach) files in myCourses.  An error message appears that says, “Error uploading file – Connection reset by peer:  socket write error”.

Workaround:
At this time the solution is to contact the Web Course Support Team at 936-468-1919 or 936-468-4633 or to send an email to sfaonline@sfasu.edu for further instructions and assistance in uploading the file.
