Ag at a Distance Bachelor's Degree Completion Program with Tyler Junior College
This is a co-enrolled program that offers Bachelor of Science degree programs in Agriculture for majors in animal science and horticulture. University core requirements and lower-level agriculture courses are taught by Tyler Junior College faculty and all upper-division courses in agriculture are offered through SFA via the WEB or in face-to-face format at Tyler Junior College. In addition, the lower-level courses required for the minor in General Business may be taken from the Tyler Junior College curriculum. All upper-level courses for the minor are offered through SFA via the WEB.

Master of Education in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification
The Principal Preparation and Masters of Education Leadership Degree Program is an advanced study in professional education in a cohort setting.

A student must take a total of 36 semester hours for the Masters of Education Degree and the Principal Certification. Within the 36 hours, each student will complete a research project. Each course has a required field-based component. Some of the field-based experiences will be required activities or projects and will be developed by the student and the professor, while other experiences will be optional and will be determined by the student and mentor. Multicultural educational experiences and technology skills will be an integrated part of each course.

Master of Education, Early Childhood Specialist Program
This program is designed to meet the specific needs of individuals who work with children ages birth through eight years. The program is designed to develop specialized competency in organizing programs for young children and families through in-depth study and research related to child growth and development, theoretical underpinnings of classroom practice, development of learning strategems, and sociological and psychological factors influencing behavior in young children.

Students may select the traditional thesis option and reduce regular course work by six hours. A minimum of six hours undergraduate work in early childhood courses related to growth, development and curriculum is required for admission to the graduate program. The graduate program is designed as a 36-hour major with two divisions. 1) A core of 24 hours of required courses: ECH 526*, 528, 529, 531, 532, 585, 586, 562* and HEC 570. (* required only of students who did not complete their undergraduate early childhood work at SFA. 2) 9-12 elective hours approved by the early childhood education graduate adviser.

Master of Education, Standard Elementary Program
The Content Emphasis Graduate Program is a 36 hour plan designed especially for individuals who teach in departmentalized or middle-school classrooms.

Courses may be selected from many content fields which support the knowledge base for specific teaching assignments. Additionally, the program includes advanced study of educational research, discipline, and the significant characteristics of learners. A 12 hour option allows specialization in one of the following areas: reading, ESL, bilingual, early childhood or may be used for PBIC courses. Twelve to 18 hours of PBIC work may be used in this program.

Master of Science in Resource Interpretation
The Arthur Temple College of Forestry at Stephen F. Austin State University (SFA) and the National Park Service (NPS) have partnered to offer the Masters Degree in Resource Interpretation. This program represents the only graduate degree program of its kind in the country. The Masters of Science in Resource Interpretation (MSRI) is an SFA-NPS partnership to:
  • Provide NPS and non-NPS interpreters with the opportunity to earn their masters degree via distance education.
  • Enable interpreters to apply the philosophy and techniques, the curriculum and training, and the certification review process of the NPS Interpretive Development Program (IDP) to their graduate studies in interpretation. (IDP program information is available Web-based: www.nps.gov/idp/interp)
  • Provide in-depth instruction in IDP competencies such as interpretive talks, conducted activities, illustrated programs, interpretive writing, curriculum-based programs, interpretive planning & leadership, and interpretive media.
  • Introduce interpreters to a wide range of interpretation theory, research, methods and best practices.
  • Facilitate in-depth study in the interpreter's area of subject matter expertise.
The requirements for the NPS-SFA partnership masters degree in resource interpretation (MSRI) include 30 credit hours (15 hours of core courses, 9 hours of restricted electives, and 6 hours of thesis research and writing) and the completion of a field experience in interpretation.

This program offers two courses Web-based for those teachers seeking ESL or Bilingual certification. The program is designed for K-12 teachers. This program offers certification for Master Reading Teacher (MRT). MRT is an individual who holds a MRT certification and whose primary duties are to teach reading and to serve as a reading mentor to other teachers.

The Elementary Education Post Baccalaureate Initial Certification (PBIC) Program
This program offers a teacher certification program for Early Childhood through Grade Four (EC-4) or Grade Four through Grade Eight (4-8) to those people who already hold a college degree. In Texas, future educators must choose between two different teacher certification plans: Early Childhood through Grade Four (EC-4) or Grade Four through Grade Eight (4-8). The courses that you take in our program are guided by the Texas certification you are interested in obtaining.

For EC-4, your content area is Early Childhood. In addition to the required pedagogy classes, you would also have to fulfill the Early Childhood course requirement--12 hours of course work. For Grades 4-8, you choose a content area such as: Math, Science, Social Studies, or English/Reading/Language Arts.
